Word cannot start the Speller due to incompatible dictionary.
Cause:
Word 7.0 for Windows is attempting to use incompatible dictionary (Word 1.x for Windows or Word for MS-DOS).
Solution:
Select the current dictionary in the 'Options' dialog box.
1) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
2) Click the 'Spelling' tab.
3) Click 'Custom Dictionaries...'. (The Custom Dictionaries dialog box appears.)
4) Select the desired dictionary check box from the 'Custom Dictionaries' list box.
5) Click 'OK'. (The Options dialog box reappears.)
NOTE: If Word 7.0's custom dictionary (CUSTOM.DIC) in not available, reinstall it.
6) Click 'OK'.
